Our History
Since its founding in 1960, the Westford Garden Club has been a cherished part of the town’s vibrant community life. Our mission is to cultivate a shared passion for gardening, promote environmental stewardship, and encourage the exchange of knowledge among members and neighbors alike. Over the decades, our members have enhanced the beauty and spirit of Westford through a variety of civic projects, including the ongoing care of the historic Herb Garden at the Westford Museum and the creation of seasonal decorations for the Town Hall and Library. These contributions reflect our dedication to enriching both the natural and cultural landscape of our community.
Beyond our beautification efforts, the Club offers a range of educational programs designed to deepen understanding of gardening, floral design, and environmental care. Through these initiatives, we strive to inspire creativity, support continuous learning, and nurture a sense of well-being for all who participate.
Each year, the Westford Garden Club awards a scholarships to a Westford Academy senior pursuing higher education in horticulture, landscape design, or environmental science — ensuring that our legacy of stewardship and curiosity continues to bloom in future generations.
The weeping cherry tree has been the iconic symbol of the Westford Garden Club for more than 50 years. Celebrated as one of the most beautiful ornamental fruit trees in the world, it represents rebirth through its glorious return to life each spring, when its branches are draped in delicate white blossoms. Cherry blossoms are traditionally associated with good fortune and are regarded as symbols of love and friendship. The tree’s natural elegance and breathtaking spring display have long made it a favorite subject for artists and admirers alike.
